Beautiful, bleak and devastating — this left me with an air of hopelessness for a couple of days after. Torrey Peters said in a recent interview that the she wanted to force her characters to confront the comforting lies they tell themselves: she fully achieves her goal. I think I disagree with what I see as the political conclusion she reaches, but I will have to reread it and see how I really feel.
